Going Abstract- creating an  abstract painting, stage one

I used this image of the interior of Kirbuster farm museum in Orkney as my 'beginning' because I felt that it had a lot of possibilities for abstraction. I took it with my camera phone on an open day at the museum when the peat fire was lit which added to the wonderful atmosphere there on the day. I like the photo because there are a lot of different shapes, textures and tonal qualities within the image that I felt would help me create the final artworks. Orkney Artist Jane Glue biography
Jane studied at Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen in1975-76 and Harrow school of art, London from 1982-85, graduating  with an HND in Art and design/Illustration. Jane opened her own gallery, Shorelines gallery in Kirkwall, Orkney on returning home in 1987. In 2005 she moved to her studio/gallery-shop in the village of Finstown. She has sold her prints, original work and other products worldwide. Jane sold her gallery in 2016 and moved to her new studio in Kirkwall at The Creative Hub in Hatston, giving her more time to paint and further her artistic development.

June is the month for wildflowers!

June is the month for wildflowers!

June is my favourite month in Orkney! The colours and smells of all the wildflowers are wonderful. In early June we have the celadines and marsh marigolds which appear out of our freshwater streams, all a few weeks later than down south and this year especially late as Orkney has been dry and cold.

A visit to the secret garden of Happy Valley is a must in early June also, just to see and feel the bluebells which grow below the trees that surround 'Edwin's' cottage.

About Jane Glue
Jane and her twin sister Judith were born in Orkney in 1958. There parents Don and Ella Glue met during WW2 when Don's ship the HMS Rodney was based in Scapa Flow. Jane and Judith both had a keen interest in art from an early age. In 1976 Jane attended Gray's School of Art, Aberdeen, later attending Harrow School of Art, graduating with an HND in Illustration in 1985.
