Orkney Landmarks

Orkney has many famous landmarks. The most famous must be The Ring of Brodgar which I have painted many times over the years and at all times of the year. In June/July the Ring is surrounded by dandelions and other wildflowers and later in September, the heather blooms in wonderful colours of purple and pinks. Orkney's sunsets can be spectacular too and Brodgar makes for a great setting with the dark silhouette's of the stones against the luminous sky. Dr John Rae the Orkney explorer

I’ve always known about John Rae, there is a memorial in St Magnus Cathedral which shows the explorer lying down, his gun by his side, and I knew about Clestrain and that John Rae had lived there. But it was only after my mother, who after reading Ken McGoogan’s book on John Rae, Fatal Passage , had insisted on my sister and I taking her out to see the house of Clestrain that I became more interested in John Rae’s story............

Orkney Artist Jane Glue biography
Jane studied at Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen in1975-76 and Harrow school of art, London from 1982-85, graduating  with an HND in Art and design/Illustration. Jane opened her own gallery, Shorelines gallery in Kirkwall, Orkney on returning home in 1987. In 2005 she moved to her studio/gallery-shop in the village of Finstown. She has sold her prints, original work and other products worldwide. Jane sold her gallery in 2016 and moved to her new studio in Kirkwall at The Creative Hub in Hatston, giving her more time to paint and further her artistic development.
