A print from a watercolour painting by Orkney artist Jane Glue
printed on C-Type Matt
Although we have the northern lights in Orkney reasonably often, I rarely see them as I live in the main town where the street lighting interferes with the night sky and also they are usually quite late or early in the morning and I am usually in bed! When I have seen them it is a magical experience. I created the sky with the 'wet on wet' technique, by dragging a clean wet sponge through the wet paint to lift some of the colour away. I also used a touch of masking fluid to create the stars. This fluid which is made of liquid latex is added on before you start painting and this means you can save small areas that you don't want to paint around.
