The Hoy Hills with Clestrain in the snow
A print from a watercolour painting by Orkney artist Jane Glue
printed on C-Type Matt
This painting features the house of Clestrain which was Dr John Rae the arctic explorers birthplace. Dr John Rae also discovered the fate of Sir John Franklins voyage to the arctic. There are plans in the future to make the house into a museum for Dr John Rae and his achievements which there are many as he was a remarkable Orcadian. The Hoy Hills covered in snow are in the background. I used salt dropped into the wet paint of the sky to give a 'snowy' affect! The watercolour paper was left blank with added touches of paint to create the snowy hills.
