A Tribute to Dr John Rae the arctic explorer
A limited edition print from a mixed media painting by Orkney artist Jane Glue
printed on C-Type Matt
Dr John Rae was a famous Orkney explorer. He was born at the house of Clestrain in Stenness. This picture depicts the house with all its secret memories hidden within the image. I placed the house in a snow scene as that seemed to tie in with him being in the arctic. In amongst the snow you can see some of the items he would have taken with him on his travels such as his fiddle, clothes and sledge. This painting was part of an exhibition I did along with Canadian artist Sheena McGoogan to celebrate John Rae's 200th birthday. The original now hangs in Stromness museum as part of their display on John Rae.
