An original soft pastel painting by Orkney artist Jane Glue
Kirbuster farm museum is situated on the west mainland of Orkney. It is a we bit tricky to find but well worth it when you get there. It consists of a group old traditional farm buildings including the main house which has this beautiful interior. On the day I visited the peat fire was lit and the room smelt of peat fumes. The sun shone through the old flagstone roof lighting up the room full of smoke. Hanging from the ceiling is a simmon or rope made from straw and on the hearth sat two griddles where 'bere' bannocks would have been cooked in years gone by. This painting was done with pastels to try and convey the atmosphere of the interior on that day. This picture is mounted with a 60mm ivory mount, framed in an oak wood 35mm wide, 12mm deep moulding and glazed. Overall size 750X570mm.
This picture can be collected from my studio in Kirkwall or ordered on line. Please contact jane@janeglue.com to arrange collection.
