Orkney Artist Jane Glue biography

Jane studied at Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen in1975-76 and Harrow school of art, London from 1982-85, graduating  with an HND in Art and design/Illustration. Jane opened her own gallery, Shorelines gallery in Kirkwall, Orkney on returning home in 1987. In 2005 she moved to her studio/gallery-shop in the village of Finstown. She has sold her prints, original work and other products worldwide. Jane sold her gallery in 2016 and moved to her new studio in Kirkwall at The Creative Hub in Hatston, giving her more time to paint and further her personal development. In 2020 she launched her new website celebrating over 35yrs of artwork. The website sells a wide range of limited edition prints on paper and canvas, cards and other products and also a range of original work.
Jane is a member of the Aberdeen Arts Society and The Royal Glasgow Institute of art. 
Artist’s statement
My work is defined by the nature, colour, landscape and light of my surroundings in Orkney, which I love. 
 Commissioned work
Illustration work: 1985 Twelve full colour Illustrations and several black and white drawings for the children’s book ‘Sheldra’ by Theresa Hedges, the book was based around the story of a girl called 'Sheldra' who lived near the Neolithic Tomb of the eagles in South Ronaldsay, Orkney.
1985 Two book cover Illustrations for the late Orkney poet George Mackay Browns novels and one book cover for a Naomi Mitchison novel commissioned by Richard Drew publishers, Edinburgh.
1986 A set of black and white drawings for Catherine Brown’s Scottish cookery published by Richard Drew publishers, Edinburgh.
1986 A set of four large composite paintings commissioned by the Highland Park Distillery for their new visitor centre in Orkney.
1990 Two large composite paintings commissioned by The Orcadian Publisher for their new factory in Kirkwall.
1987- 2015 Many private commissions worldwide. 
AOI Gallery, London- 1984, Young Illustrators exhibition. A set of illustrations for 'The Old Man and the sea' by Ernest Hemingway.
Tankerness House Museum, Kirkwall- 1986 The craftsman at work. An exhibition of over thirty paintings and drawings of crafts people at work from Somerset to Orkney. This included a fiddle maker, cider maker, Orkney chair maker, a blacksmith, a weaver and a miller. All paintings were produced as part of my graduation work at Harrow school of Art.

The McEwan gallery, Aberdeenshire - mixed exhibition in 1992.
The Pier Arts Centre, Stromness - Jane regularly exhibits in the annual xmas mixed exhibitions.

Breathless Breastless Project July 2014, Seventeen, Aberdeen. A travelling exhibition consisting of twelve artists who have experienced breast cancer.
Jane Glue Gallery, Finstown,Orkney- Jane has exhibited and sold work mainly through her own gallery from 1987-2016.
Jane Glue, The Creative hub, Kirkwall, 2016-present. Jane now sells prints, other products and original artwork from her studio/website.
