Winter light at Waulkmill bay in Orkney, a watercolour painting in dark blue and white which shows the waves rolling over the sand dunes in the bay by orkney artist Jane Glue.

The Highland Art Prize 2026

I am pleased to announce that my original watercolour painting 'Winter light at Waulkmill Bay' has been selected along with three other Orkney artists who are members of Creative Orkney to be exhibited as part of a group show of 76 different artists from throughout Scotland at the 2026 Highland Art Prize exhibition at The Briggait, 141 Bridgegate, Glasgow G1 5HZ. 2026  during the Royal National Mòd from 9th-17th October 2026, 9am-5pm.

My watercolour painting depicts glistening white 'rollers' moving over the large sandy bay at Waulkmill in Orkney and a couple walking thier dog along the edge of the tideline. The patterns the light created in the late afternoon light were my inspiration for this painting which consists of only two colours, Indigo blue and Indian yellow with the paper left blank to create the  white areas.
