The explorer Dr John Rae's home
A watercolour painting by orkney artist Jane Glue
printed on C-Type Matt
This painting was part of an exhibition that Canadian artist Sheena McCoogan and I did based around Dr John Rae's life called 'From Orkney to Canada'. This is his childhood home at Clestrain in Stenness, Orkney. The jacket and Canadian blanket on the washing line represent his clothes. In the grass are his fiddle and sledge from his travels in the arctic. I added the geese into the sky because on the day I visited they were flying overhead and I thought they would have been doing the same thing when John Rae lived there as a boy.
