The explorer John Rae's home
A watercolour painting by orkney artist Jane Glue
printed on C-Type Matt
This painting was part of an exhibition that Canadian artist Sheena McCoogan and I did based around Dr John Rae's life. This is his childhood home at Clestrain in Stenness. The jacket and Canadian blanket on the washing line represent his clothes and there is his fiddle and sledge from the artic hidden in the grass. I added in the geese because when I was there painting they were flying overhead and I thought they would have been doing the same when he lived there as a boy.
